Park District Offering Programs for School Children During Teachers Strike The Waukegan Park District is offering several programs for school children during the teachers strike. These programs will be in effect on Monday, October 6th.  Click here for more information.

Free For All at the Field House Sports and Fitness Center During Waukegan School Teacher Strike The Waukegan Park District will provide a Free For All at the Field House Sports and Fitness Center from 10am-4pm, Monday - Friday during the Waukegan Public Schools teacher strike. To take advantage of the Free For All, students must present their Waukegan School District student ID when entering the facility. Children under the age of 11 can participate, but must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Click here to learn more how to receive the free admission.

Waukegan Symphony Orchestra presents Greetings from Prague  Join us at 4:00pm on Sunday, October 19 at the Trapp Auditorium in Waukegan High School, 2325 Brookside Ave. for an afternoon of music. Tickets are $15 for adults, 10 for seniors/military, $7 for students 19 and under with college ID and FREE for students 18 and under. Halloweenfest Bring the entire family to Bowen Park on Saturday, October 25, 3-7pm, rain or shine for many fun Halloween activities! Experience the dark manor, enchanted walk, inflatable and children's games, Greet a Ghoul, food vendors, train ride, storytelling and so much more! Ray Bradbury's Green Town Guided Walking Tours The Waukegan History Museum of the Waukegan Park District and the Waukegan Historical Society has a free guided walking tour titled “Ray Bradbury’s Green Town” coming up.  There are two alternate dates for this tour, Friday, October 31 at 5:00pm (ID #4558) or Saturday, November 1 at 10:00am (ID #4572). These free guided walking tours start at the Waukegan Park District’s Ray Bradbury Park at 41 North Park Avenue. Please click here for more information.

Park Commissioner Nomination Papers Available September 23, 2014 There will be 2 park commissioner positions on the ballot for the April 7, 2015 election. The six-year positions currently held by Commissioners Terry Duffy and Pat Foley are up for election. Both incumbents are seeking re-election. Candidates seeking election as Waukegan Park District Park Commissioners may pick up nomination papers at the Corrine J. Rose Administrative Office, 2000 Belvidere. Please click here for more information.

Waukegan Park District Receives the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the Waukegan Park District has received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2014-2015 Budget. Photography Classes at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts Point, shoot, and edit with instructor Caryn Harris at the park district’s Comcast Literary Arts and Digital Photography Lab.  There are three 2-week adult classes, each having a different focus with classes on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:45pm at the Jack Benny Center. Know Your Food Get to know your food with the Waukegan Park District and Health Coach Sharice Bell. All classes are at 6:30pm at Lilac Cottage, 1911 N Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL 60087. Classes are Free, but require pre-registration. Please click here for more information.

Seeds of Truth The Cultural Arts Division of the Waukegan Park District is offering a new series of classes for children and families on how to create healthy and tasty meals. Cultured Vegan, Chef Rain Truth will teach basic culinary skills using step by step recipes that incorporate math, science, and the historical context of food origins and preparation. In this creative and fun class, students will learn cooking styles from different cultures and historical time periods and enjoy the food they prepared. Parents/guardians are encouraged to take the class with their child. Click here for more information.

Black and White and Paint All Over Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division - Black and White and Paint All Over features the art of a Waukegan husband and wife team of artists, Bradley and Mary Haas. Their collection includes black and white photography and paintings done on location around Waukegan, Illinois.  Click here for more information.


Volunteer Opportunities Available The Waukegan Park District would not be as successful as it is today without the exceptional talents of our citizen volunteers. Our programs, facilities and committees serve the needs of our entire community and our volunteers play a critical role in our exceptional service delivery. Volunteers are needed for the following upcoming events: 
Child Safety Day - October 11
Halloweenfest - October 25
Turkey Trot - November 15

Waukegan: Then & Now Photograph Exhibit  The Waukegan History Museum has a new temporary exhibit titled "Waukegan: Then & Now." This photography exhibit analyzes 12 historic sites and shows the changes, if any that have occurred over the years.  The exhibit will close September 30.  Entrance to the Waukegan History Museum as well as the exhibit "Waukegan: Then & Now" is free and is also available in Spanish. Buffet Dining at Bonnie Brook Golf Course Come to Bonnie Brook for buffet-style dining at the clubhouse from 10a-2pm on the last Sunday of each month. Reservations suggested, please call (847) 360-4734 for more information.

Wednesday Night Dinners Year-round, come and enjoy Bonnie Brook’s mouth-watering Wednesday Night Dinners. The regulars will be the first to tell you, they love the midweek break from cooking at home. The dinners feature a wide variety of entrees, such as: fish, pasta, ribs and pot roast, delicious sides and a fresh selection of soups and salads. Dinner is served Wednesday evenings from 4:30-8pm.
