The Waukegan Park District is offering a four week Introduction to Outdoor Living program beginning on May 3 and ending with an overnight camping trip on May 31 at Illinois Beach State Park. The program offers youth ages 8-12 and parents an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills needed to have fun and enjoy camping and outdoor life. Click here for more information.
As a condition of the recent negotiations by the teacher’s union, this school year will end June 2, 2014. Families can look to the Waukegan Park District for their child care needs. Planning is underway for this year's American Independence Parade and
Festival. The year's theme is "Bringing Home the Gold" and will
be Sunday, June 29. The Parade starts at Franklin Street at 1pm and follows Sheridan Road north
to Bowen Park. The Festival includes activities for the entire family throughout Bowen Park from

The Waukegan Park District has recently launched a major project to create the District’s 2015-2020 Parks and Open Space Master Plan. As part of the process, the District is seeking public input through the creation of a Master Plan Advisory Committee. This committee will inform and guide the planning process and nominations are still being accepted through April 18. Beginning March 3, the Waukegan Park District’s Field House Sports and Fitness Center will open its doors at 5am, Monday through Friday. This reflects a 30 minute earlier opening time on Monday-Friday mornings. New Field House hours: Monday – Friday 5am-9pm, Saturday & Sunday 7am-7pm (October – May) and Saturday & Sunday 7am-5pm (June-September)
