If the Waukegan Schools should be closed due to a teachers’ strike, families can look to the Waukegan Park District for their child care needs. The Park District will offer programs when school is not in session, Monday through Friday. Meals are not included, please provide a sack lunch for your child each day. The Cultural Arts Division of the Waukegan Park District is offering a new series of classes for children and families on how to create healthy and tasty meals. Cultured Vegan, Chef Rain Truth will teach basic culinary skills using step by step recipes that incorporate math, science, and the historical context of food origins and preparation. In this creative and fun class, students will learn cooking styles from different cultures and historical time periods and enjoy the food they prepared. Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division - Black and White and Paint All Over features the art of a Waukegan husband and wife team of artists, Bradley and Mary Haas. Their collection includes black and white photography and paintings done on location around Waukegan, Illinois. The Waukegan History Museum has a new temporary exhibit titled "Waukegan: Then & Now." This photography exhibit analyzes 12 historic sites and shows the changes, if any that have occurred over the years. The exhibit will close September 30. Entrance to the Waukegan History Museum as well as the exhibit "Waukegan: Then & Now" is free and is also available in Spanish.
