Bowen Park Theatre Company Click here for flyer. The Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division announces the opening of the Bowen Park Theatre Company (BPTC) season under the artistic direction of Jason Clark on Friday, September 25 with two plays:  Anne Nelson’s THE GUYS and Neil LaBute’s THE MERCY SEAT. The professional theatre company opens its 28th season by bringing our audience members back fourteen years ago to the tragedy of 9/11. Performances of The Guys and The Mercy Seat will be held at the Dr. Lynn Schornick Theatre on Fridays and Saturdays, October 9 and 10 with an 8pm curtain.  A Sunday matinee will be held on October 11 with a 3pm curtain. Child Safety Day Come to the Belvidere Recreation Center on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 1-3pm to learn how to keep your child safe and healthy and what to do if your child is missing. You can also fingerprint your child and purchase an ID card. Other activities include visiting the Waukegan Safety House and meeting local firefighters and police officers. Program is free, but there is a $5 fee for optional identification card. Please click here to read more.

Audition Notice for the Bowen Park Theatre’s Winter Production The Waukegan Park District’s Bowen Park Theatre (847-360-4740) is holding an open call for the play, AGNES OF GOD, that will be on the Schornick stage in late January and into February.  Auditions will be held on Sunday, October 18, from noon to 5:30pm and Monday, October 19, from 5:30 to 9:00pm at the Schornick Theatre in Goodfellow Hall, 39 Jack Benny Drive, Waukegan IL 60087. Halloweenfest There is fun for the whole family at this spooktacular event. Experience our enchanted walk, Greet A Ghoul, games and other great activities on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 3-7pm in Bowen Park. This event is FREE! Come rain or shine. Click here for flyer. Dia De Los Muertos - Day of the Dead On Sunday, November 1 from 2-6pm, Academia Cultural Xilotl will hold their “5th Annual Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda and Altar Exhibit” a commemoration to loved ones on Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at Dr. Lynn Schornick Theatre from. Dia de los Muertos is a celebration in Mexico, Latin America and certain parts of the United States that remembers and honors the departed by creating altars decorated with crafts and sugar skulls, offerings such as Pan de Muerto, fruit, food and drink and symbolic art on this special holiday! 

Sábado 1 de Noviembre, la Academia Cultural Xilotl llevará a cabo su “5 Exhibición Anual de Día de los Muertos Ofrenda y Altar"-una conmemoración a los seres queridos en el Día de los Muertos en el Teatro de la Doctora Lynn Schornick. Día de los Muertos es una celebración en México, América Latina y ciertas partes de Estados Unidos, que recuerda y honra a los difuntos con la creación de altares decoradas con artesanías, calaveritas de azúcar, ofrendas como Pan de Muerto, fruta, comida, bebidas, el arte simbólico en este día de fiesta especial! Calaveritas de Azúcar/Sugar Skulls: $5 • Bocados/Refreshment @1pm: $ 1 cada uno

Community Recycling Event Bring your recyclable household items to Belvidere Park, 412 S. Lewis Ave., on Saturday, November 7 from 9am-1pm. This event is a partnership with the Waukegan Park District, the City of Waukegan and SWALCO. Theatre, Music, and Cultural Arts The Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division is proud to announce the 2015/16 Performing Arts season.  Bowen Park Theatre Company features three productions and the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra and Concert Chorus (WSOCC) will offer a total of six concerts.  Options for tickets include season tickets and single tickets. Special Olympics State Tennis Tournament Gold Medal awarded to Emanuel G, a SRSNLC Special Olympics Athlete SRSNLC Special Olympics athletes Emanuel G. and Christian T. competed at the Special Olympics August State Tennis Tournament in Frankfort, IL. Waukegan Park District Saves $1,115,138 through Debt Refinancing On Tuesday August 11th the Waukegan Park District Board of Park Commissioners, approved the refinancing of the Series 2008B General Obligation Park Bonds (Alternative Revenue Source) at lower interest rates resulting in a savings of $1,115,137.50 over the remaining 13.5 years of debt service.
