Waukegan Symphony Orchestra and Concert Chorus


The Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division is pleased that you are interested in becoming a member of one of our professionally-led community-based music performance groups.  Currently, Stephen Blackwelder is the music director of the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra and the Waukegan Concert Chorus is directed by Randy Casey.

Audition Notice for the Bowen Park

Theatre’s Winter Production


The Waukegan Park District’s Bowen Park Theatre (847-360-4740) is holding an open call for the play, AGNES OF GOD, that will be on the Schornick stage in late January and into February.  Auditions will be held on Sunday, October 18, from noon to 5:30pm and Monday, October 19, from 5:30 to 9:00pm at the Schornick Theatre in Goodfellow Hall, 39 Jack Benny Drive, Waukegan IL 60087.


Actors are asked to bring in a headshot and résumé to the audition and are asked to prepare a two-minute dialogue.  There will also be a cold read from the script.  If auditioning for Agnes, please be prepared to sing a short hymn.   Agnes (Female) – 18-mid to late 20’s, innocent, very meek and humble in nature. Singing required for Agnes only. Strong soprano preferred. Dr. Martha Livingstone (Female) – Early 30's to mid to late forties. A psychiatrist and religious skeptic, she is a smoker and will display this throughout the show. Mother Miriam Ruth (Female) – Mother Superior. Late 40’s to mid to late 50’s has very strong faith, opinions and presence and is very protective.


Actors are invited to set up an audition time by contacting the Jack Benny Center for the Arts at 847-360-4740 or by contacting staff at cfreeman@waukeganparks.org.  The play will run from January 29, 30, and February 5, 6, 7*, 12, 13, 14*, 2016.  Curtain is at 8 pm and Sunday matinees* have a 3 pm curtain.

Acts to Follow

Acts to Follow is a theatre group housed at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts, 39 Jack Benny Drive- Bowen Park, Waukegan, IL.  Three times a year a published one-act play and an original short are performed for audiences.  Please feel free to call 847-360-4740 if you have any questions. A message will be forwarded to Acts to Follow. 


The group is always looking for playwrights interested in submitting an unpublished one-act or an original short play by mail or in person to Jack Benny Center for the Arts Attn: Acts to Follow, 39 Jack Benny Drive, Waukegan, IL 60087 or via email to actstofollowsubmissions@gmail.com.  For further information in regards to submitting a play or if you are interested in auditions for the Bowen Park Theatre Company or Acts to Follow, please call the Jack Benny Center for the Arts at 847-360-4740.  Partial sponsorship of the Cultural Arts programs is through a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, an agency of the State of Illinois.
