The Waukegan Park District is proud to announce that the lifeguard staff at the Howard Ganster Pool finished their pool season with their third “exceeds” audit score from Jeff Ellis and Associates Lifeguard company. With the third “exceeds” rating the Ganster Pool qualified to receive a platinum award, which is Jeff Ellis and Associates highest and most prestigious award. Receiving a platinum award ranks the Waukegan Park Districts Aquatics staff as one of the best worldwide. [read more]
The Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners, at their August 12, 2008 board meeting, approved the Site Master Plan for the Outdoor Sports Complex. President of the Board of Commissioners, Wayne Motley commented that the site plan was “ the result of over 20 public board meetings since December with constituents, sports affiliates, architects, engineers, construction managers, landscape architects and staff to create the plan we have approved.”

Oakwood Cemetery Walk, an annual free event began in 1995, takes the participants through the city cemetery (1851). Visitors to Oakwood have been taken back to a time and place that has ranged from pre- Civil War to as
recent as 1979. Four to six“residents” are portrayed by local “actors” each
year. There has always been diversity among the characters portrayed.
Finding information about women and minorities has been challenging but rewarding. The cemetery walk has featured the first female physician in Waukegan and George Washington Bell, a former slave turned Union soldier. This annual event is a cooperative program between the Waukegan Park District, City of Waukegan, and the Waukegan Historical Society.[read more]

The World Wide Day of Play is an annual celebration sponsored by Nickelodeon that promotes active play for kids in which the entire network goes “dark” from 11am-2pm to encourage kids to “get out and play” in efforts to fight childhood obesity. [read more]
On Monday, July 21st, 7 p.m. at the Belvidere Recreation Center, the
Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing
to unveil plans for development of the Outdoor Community Sport Complex.
The plans illustrate the result of months of input and work of the commissioners, members of affiliated sports organizations, advisory
committee members, PHN Architects, Gewalt-Hamilton Civil Engineers, JJR Landscape Architects and W.B. Olson Construction Managers. [read more]

The Waukegan Park District engaged Alpha Environmental, Inc., (AE) to test OHGC soils to determine whether they contained such contamination above Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) soil remediation objectives, in coordination with the Park District’s environmental attorney, Tom Daggett of
