Welcome!
The Recreation Department's goal is to offer activities for all age groups; programs that are recreational, social, cultural, physical, and also offer creative outlets.
The Recreation Department encourages children and adults to take advantage of recreational opportunities by participating in the many early childhood, youth and teen, camp, after-school, adult programs, aquatic, athletic, leagues, and/or special recreation programs. Our programs and services benefit individuals by enhancing self-esteem, creative expression, fitness and physical activity.
Program information on fall, winter, spring and summer activities can be found in the Waukegan Park District seasonal brochure. Additional activity information may be provided to children at school, or you may also see activity information on park district marquees, or in the local newspaper. Special Recreation offers a program brochure for winter/spring, summer and fall.
What are the benefits?
Early Childhood Programs provide positive recreational opportunities for fun, learning, and socialization. They are also designed to encourage creativity through songs, music, books, and art, as well as promoting self-confidence through independent play.
Youth and Teen Programs work to enhance self- esteem, expose youth to new opportunities, increase their knowledge, cultural awareness, and well being among their peers.
Adult Programs provide an opportunity for socialization, bettering ones health, skill development, reducing stress, and taking adventures. Take time for fun!
Youth and Adult Sports and Fitness Programs offer opportunities for physical fitness, mind body awareness, socialization, decreasing child obesity, increasing self-esteem, and encouraging healthy habits.
Special Recreation Services provides program participants opportunities to become responsible, productive, healthy, and contributing members of our society by preparing them through recreation with a dynamic and caring environment, which excites them and invites them to participate.
Heart's N Parks is a national community-based program supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the National Recreation and Parks Association. The Recreation Department's goal is to use this program in efforts to reduce the growing trend of obesity and the risk of coronary heart disease. We want to encourage youth, adults, and seniors to achieve a healthy weight, follow a heart healthy eating plan, engage in fun and regular physical activity. Come see us and join in one of our many heart-healthy programs today.
