Waukegan, Illinois (November 15, 2023) – The Waukegan Concert Chorus presents Britten & Baroque on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 4pm to 5pm at the Dr. Lynn Schornick Theatre in the Jack Benny Center for the Arts, located at 39 Jack Benny Drive in Bowen Park. The concert will feature Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols and music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Henry Purcell, Michael Praetorius, and Georg Phillip Telemann.
The concert will celebrate Benjamin Britten, who was voted the most important composer in English history in a recent survey of over 167 musicians from around the world conducted by BBC Music Magazine. His A Ceremony of Carols is distinctive for offering its mostly medieval texts accompanied by harp. The concert will also include music by Henry Purcell, who is considered by many to be England’s greatest composer of the Baroque era.
Established in 1976, the Waukegan Concert Chorus is led by Music Director Randy Casey. The Waukegan Concert Chorus is a sister organization to the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra.
A ticket is required to attend the concert. The following ticket options are available:

- Student (19 years and older): $10
- Senior (62 years and older)/Military: $15
- Adult: $20

Nationally accredited by the NRPA Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and State accredited through the IAPD Distinguished Agency Accreditation, the WPD has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Triple Crown Award for receiving the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The WPD was awarded the NRPA National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management in 2013, and was named a Gold Medal Finalist in 2012, 2013, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
