The Waukegan Park District is partnering with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) and the City of Waukegan to host a Community Recycling Event on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 9am to 12pm at the Park Maintenance Facility, located at 2211 Ernie Krueger Circle. Confidential document shredding will also be available (four (4) box limit per vehicle).

Collected items will be reused, recycled, or donated to local non-profit organizations. The following items will be accepted, with some exceptions:

• Accessories (backpacks, belts, duffle bags, hats, purses, and scarves)
• Batteries (household batteries..no cellphone or rechargeable)
• Bicycles
• Books
• Bulbs (including fluorescent)
• Canned Food (sealed, not expired)
• Clothes and Textiles
• Diapers and Wipes (new)
• Electronics
• Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids, and Keys
• Footwear (boots and shoes)
• Linens (bedding, blankets, curtains, and towels)
• Musical Instruments
• Paint (latex and oil-based)
• Plastic Film
• Sports Equipment
• Stuffed and Plush Animals

The Waukegan Park District is committed to being an environmental leader in the community through the use of sound environmental policies, procedures, and educational opportunities. The Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners has adopted policies incorporating principles and best practices that focus on caring for the environment.

The Community Recycling Event will be contact-free. Individuals must have all items and/or bags marked in the trunk of their vehicle where staff will collect the items.
